How Can I Customize the Bell Strike Interval?

Customize Your Bell Strike Interval

The bell strike feature on Insight Timer's meditation timer helps structure your meditation practice by sounding at regular intervals throughout your session. This gentle auditory anchor can help you maintain focus, return to the present moment, and create rhythm in your practice. You can fully customize the interval between bell strikes to match your personal preference — whether you want more frequent bells to anchor your attention or fewer, longer silences for a more spacious, unstructured practice.

How to Adjust Your Bell Strike Settings

Follow these detailed steps to modify your bell strike interval:

  1. Open the Insight Timer app on your device.
  2. Tap the menu icon (☰) located in the top-left corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll down through the menu options available to you.
  4. Select Settings from the list.
  5. Tap Features & Preferences to access personalization and customization options.
  6. Under the Features section, select Timer.
  7. Tap Bell Strike Interval to view and adjust your available options.
  8. Use the slider to set your preferred interval between bell strikes. You can adjust this to any duration that works best for your practice style and preferences.

How Your Changes Are Applied

Your changes to the bell strike interval are applied automatically once you adjust the slider — there's no need to save or confirm your changes. The next time you use the meditation timer, your custom interval will take effect immediately. This means if you prefer a bell every minute to keep you anchored, or if you prefer bells every five minutes for longer periods of silence, or any interval in between, your setting will be remembered for all future sessions.

Using Your Custom Settings

You can change your bell strike interval anytime by returning to these same settings. This flexibility lets you adapt your timer experience to match your current mood, practice length, available time, and personal preference on any given day. Some days you might want more frequent bells, other days you might prefer long stretches of silence — the choice is entirely yours.
