How Do I Enable Do Not Disturb During a Session?

To prevent notifications from interrupting your meditation, mindfulness, sleep, or other session on Insight Timer, you can enable Do Not Disturb (called Focus Mode on newer iPhones) directly on your device. This feature mutes all notifications and system sounds so you can settle into your practice without interruptions.


For iPhone (iOS)

You have two ways to enable Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, depending on whether you want to set it up in advance or quickly before a session:


Option 1: Through Settings

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Tap Focus.
  3. Select Do Not Disturb.
  4. Tap Turn On.


When you activate Do Not Disturb this way, you'll see a crescent moon icon appear in your status bar at the top of your screen. This icon indicates that the feature is active and your notifications are being muted.


Option 2: Through Control Center (quicker method)

  1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen (or swipe up from the bottom on older iPhone models).
  2. Tap the Focus button.
  3. Select Do Not Disturb.


This Control Center method is faster if you're already in the Insight Timer app and want to quickly turn on Do Not Disturb right before you meditate. Remember to turn it off after your session finishes if you don't want it to remain active — otherwise it will continue blocking notifications even after you've completed your practice.


For Android devices

On Android, you can enable Do Not Disturb in two different ways. You can use your device's system settings, or enable it directly within the Insight Timer app for a more streamlined experience:


  1. Open the Insight Timer app.
  2. Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Tap Features & Preferences.
  5. Under Preferences, toggle Do Not Disturb on or off.


When you enable Do Not Disturb through Insight Timer, system sounds will be muted throughout your entire session. The feature automatically returns your device to normal sound settings when your session ends, so you won't accidentally miss important calls or messages after you've finished meditating.
